My mom would not let me go to the candy store across the street from my school. Would not. No way. I thought she hated that candy store so I went to Circle K a block away to buy candy. Why wouldn't she let me go to the candy store across the street? Because she didn't want me crossing the street. So instead, I went somewhere else that required three street crossings. I thought it was the candy that was the problem so I was careful not to tell her that I was buying candy elsewhere (one of the few times that I succeeded in fooling her). Now if she had told me why she didn't want me over there, I possibly wouldn't have. No, I would have sent money with my friends when they went!
I was a terrible liar so I learned pretty quickly not to do it. Instead, I would just not say anything about it. If she asked me, I'd confess. If she didn't ask, I didn't volunteer information. Pity mothers of gifted children - they have no idea whatsoever is going on in that child's head!
